Established in April 2022, the Kisumu Yacht Club Sailing School is based at the Kisumu Yacht Club grounds by the boatyard. The school was set up to promote sailing, and enhance the skills of new and intermediate sailors alike whilst building the club’s sailing capacity.

  • Lead (non-RYA) Sailing Instructor

  • Sailing 10+ years on dinghies; Lasers, Optimists (single-handlers), Quests and GP14s (double-handlers)

  • RYA Certified on dinghies

  • St. Johns Ambulance trained in First Aid at Work

  • Trained on the United Nations (UN) Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environments (SSAFE) for operating in hostile or hazardous environments

 
 

Ben (Staff)

  • Facilitating (non-RYA) Sailing Instructor (main focus - practical instruction)

  • 30 years+ of dinghy sailing, and windsurfing; experienced with Lasers and Optimists (single-handlers), GP14s, Quests, Fireballs, and Catamarans (double-handlers), including use of spinnakers and trapezing

  • 15+ years using Safety and Emergency powerboats

  • Race experience in competitions in Kenya, Naivasha, Uganda (Laser Regatta Championship)

  • Sailing Support Instructor

  • Trained to RYA Level 3

  • Experience with single handlers (Optimists and Lasers)
